Thank you for helping Team Tomlinson reach our fundraising goal!
Our team is named in support of Vicki Tomlinson who was diagnosed with glioblastoma (a very aggressive form of brain cancer) in July 2021. There were absolutely no signs of any cognitive or physical changes until one day she had a grand mal seizure while outside mowing, She was rushed by ambulance to the hospital where the doctors put her in a medically induced coma for several days to try and stop the seizures. An MRI revealed that a mass on her brain was the cause of the seizures and a biopsy revealed the diagnosis of stage 4 glioblastoma.
She has since undergone a 10-hour awake brain surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center, 6 weeks chemo/radiation in Houston, and 6 additional months of chemo treatments. She goes to Houston every 2 months for scans and will continue to do so for the rest of her life.
Our team is joining the fight against brain cancer by participating in Head for the Cure Omaha on July 23rd, 2022. Head for the Cure is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for brain cancer research.
Head for the Cure works to inspire hope for the community of brain cancer patients, their families, friends, caregivers and other supporters, while celebrating their courage, spirit and energy. Every Head for the Cure event marks a day of celebration where those diagnosed with brain cancer are honored and celebrated by their friends and families, those who have lost their battles are remembered, and we are all inspired to carry on the fight.
Funds raised by Head for the Cure support the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative, a network of medical centers with the expertise and the desire to participate in state-of-the-art clinical trials investigating new treatments for malignant brain tumors.
Each year, over 84,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor. More than 120 types of brain tumors exist, making effective treatment complicated. Cutting edge research is needed as we continue to make strides in this fight.
While there have been many improvements made in prevention, screening, and treatment of other forms of cancer, death rates from glioblastoma remain virtually unchanged. Research is on the horizon, but fundraisers like this are critical to making that happen!
Please consider making a donation today to help us reach our goal and to help Head for the Cure defeat brain cancer, step by step!
