Our team is joining the fight against brain cancer by participating in Head for the Cure North Texas on May 31, 2020. Head for the Cure is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for brain cancer research.
Amy’s story begins in the spring of 2011 when she began to notice she was having trouble making her left leg move. She remembers almost falling several times at church and telling her husband that it felt like she had had a stroke even though she knew she hadn’t. A good friend noticed that she was walking funny and encouraged her to go to a Doctor. An MRI revealed a large mass on the right side of her brain and surgery was scheduled to remove it. The surgery was on September 12, 2011. The Doctors told us there was a possibility of some short term paralysis, but that lasted longer and Amy spent time at Baylor Rehabilitation learning how to make her left side work again. She was an inspiration to her family, friends and the staff at BRI. She was asked by the staff to visit another patient who was going through what Amy had because she had such a positive outlook on things and they felt she could encourage this woman as well.
During her two years of chemo Amy remained positive and through it all she took care of her family, home and continued to work. There were times when things were rough but she has continued to keep her faith in God by reading the Bible and listening to Christian music. She even managed to make some meals for others who were going through a similar situation.
At the end of her chemo friends celebrated with her and gave her a special book telling her how much she had inspired them. Some of the comments are :
“You have shown me and everyone around you what it means to walk by faith and not by sight, fully trusting Jesus every step of the way!” “Thank you Amy for testifying of God’s goodness and for being brave and sharing a smile, Bible verse, and even humor at times when the walk has been difficult and uncertain.” “Throughout your journey you have displayed such an unbounding FAITH, LOVE and GRACE. You have been an encouragement to all who know you.” “During the past several years you have taught me how to face difficult trials with grace and assurance. You have modeled courage, strength and faith in spite of overwhelming circumstances.”
I would like to close with Amy’s favorite Bible verse: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13.
