Run For Rod
My family and I are excited to be a part of the 7th annual Head for the Cure in Houston on October 12, 2019. Claire and I participated at the first Head for the Cure joined by Julianna and Kylie, Dad was still with us then but couldn't attend due to the rainy weather. Dad was touched that we participated and especially because the money raised goes back to where he was treated.
Years 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 we just keep continuing to grow and raise more money! Last year, we had a team of fifty and raised $9,000! We appreciate everyone's love and support!
In 2004 Head for the Cure was able to donate money to start the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. For more information about all of their great work please visit www.bttconline.org and www.mdanderson.org.
The staff at MD Anderson was always caring, and supportive. We had ups and downs throughout Dad's illness but he fought hard and the caring people at MD Anderson did everything in their power to treat his disease and ensure his quality of life. We were blessed by the extra time his care team was able to provide us with him. We are so thankful, especially to everyone on P8, Rehab, Brain & Spine Center, Chaplaincy, Orthopedics, Supportive Care Center, Palliative Care, Dr. Yung, Eva Lu, Tamu, Dr. Zhukovsky, Dr. Reddy, Dr. Prabhu, Mrs. B, and Ms. Flo. The list could go on and on, there were just so many good people we came into contact with throughout our journey, including other patients and their families. Our family and friends also offered us invaluable support through prayers, visits, food, calls, and errands. We are so thankful for and blessed by everyone in our lives. We will also remember our Aunt Jill, and Grandma Joanie that have also passed from cancer. We love and miss all of them!
The cause is extremely close to us and we wanted friends and family to be able to celebrate Dad's memory. Head for the Cure is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for brain cancer research.
Each year, over 200,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor. More than 120 types of brain tumors exist, making effective treatment complicated. Cutting edge research is needed as we continue to make strides in this fight.
Head for the Cure works to inspire hope for the community of brain cancer patients, their families, friends, caregivers and other supporters, while celebrating their courage, spirit and energy. Every Head for the Cure event marks a day of celebration where those diagnosed with brain cancer are honored and celebrated by their friends and families, those who have lost their battles are remembered, and we are all inspired to carry on the fight.
Please consider joining our team and walking or running with us, or making a donation today to help us reach our goal and to help Head for the Cure defeat brain cancer, step by step!
Love to all
Carrie, Jackie, Chris & Claire Anderson
