Oct 1st, 2018 our lives changed forever. The tumor that had formed in Mike's brain was confirmed cancerous. Not only was it cancer, but the worst kind: glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is a malignant grade iv tumor with an aggressive nature to invade and grow rapidly. Since this day, Mike has undergone traditional chemo and radiation, but he has a genetic mutation that means these forms of treatment do not work on him. His doctors have since provided new medical trials that are attempting to prevent the tumor from growing. Mike recently underwent his second brain surgery where doctors removed dead cells from radiation, attempted to reduce swelling in his brain and removed other cancerous cells.
It’s been nearly one year since Mike learned he had brain cancer. In honor of that momentous date, as well as his current fight, we’re raising funds for Head for the Cure by participating in their 5k event September 15th. Please help support us in Mike’s fight against this aggressive cancer!
Head for the Cure is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for brain cancer research. Head for the Cure works to inspire hope for the community of brain cancer patients, their families, friends, caregivers and other supporters, while celebrating their courage, spirit and energy. Every Head for the Cure event marks a day of celebration where those diagnosed with brain cancer are honored and celebrated by their friends and families, those who have lost their battles are remembered, and we are all inspired to carry on the fight.
Funds raised by Head for the Cure support the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative, a network of medical centers with the expertise and the desire to participate in state-of-the-art clinical trials investigating new treatments for malignant brain tumors.
Please consider making a donation today to help us reach our goal and to help Head for the Cure defeat brain cancer, step by step!
