Thank you for visiting our team page and helping us to reach our fundraising goal!
Our team is joining the fight against brain cancer by participating in Head for the Cure 5K Run/Walk on September 22, 2019. Head for the Cure is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for brain cancer research.
In September 2017, Andrew checked into the hospital with persistent migraines and came out, more than a week later, after and emergency craniotomy was preformed to remove a tumor off his frontal lobe. Hours after learning that he had Glioblastoma, he said the 6 most important words he has ever spoken “I will not die from this”
He powered through 6 weeks of radiation and a year of chemotherapy with unrivaled determination. He changed his diet and explored alternative medicines. He has been steadfast in his resolution to live.
In the time since his diagnosis he has shown a new appreciation for life. Whether or not he realizes it, his family has noticed that he smiles more often and he proclaims his love more frequently.
In January, he and his wife Ashley were blessed with not one, but two perfect babies. Fiona Rae and Declan James came into the world 6 weeks early and it was instantly clear that they inherited some of their daddy’s fighting spirit! Andrew and Ashley are naturals when it comes to parenting. They are gentle and warm and the love that exists in their family is beautifully sublime.
Brain cancer does not define Andrew. It is something he has, it is not who he is.
He is a loving and devoted husband and father. He is a caring son, an amazing brother, and has always treated his niece and nephews as if they were his own. He is a hardworking man who is loyal in his friendships. His wit and sarcasm are matched only by his kindness and generosity. Andrew inspires his family and friends to live happier, healthier lives and to never take a second for granted.
Head for the Cure works to inspire hope for the community of brain cancer patients, their families, friends, caregivers and other supporters, while celebrating their courage, spirit and energy. Every Head for the Cure event marks a day of celebration where those diagnosed with brain cancer are honored and celebrated by their friends and families, those who have lost their battles are remembered, and we are all inspired to carry on the fight.
Funds raised by Head for the Cure support the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative, a network of medical centers with the expertise and the desire to participate in state-of-the-art clinical trials investigating new treatments for malignant brain tumors.
Each year, over 200,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor. More than 120 types of brain tumors exist, making effective treatment complicated. Cutting edge research is needed as we continue to make strides in this fight.
Please consider making a donation today to help us reach our goal and to help Head for the Cure defeat brain cancer, step by step!
