Dorothy's Sunshine Gang
Thank you for visiting our team page and helping us to reach our fundraising goal!
Our team is joining the fight against brain cancer by participating in Head for the Cure Brain Cancer Awareness 5K - Pittsburgh on August 17, 2019. Head for the Cure is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for brain cancer research.
My mom, Dorothy (Becky) Pollack, passed away in February 2014 from glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), a form of brain cancer, only weeks after diagnosis/surgery. In honor of her memory I have created a walking/running team, "Dorothy's Sunshine Gang" for the 6th Brain Cancer Awareness 5K August 17 at White Oak Park. Since its inception in 2014, the BCA 5K has donated over $200,000 to the University of Pittsburgh Hillman Cancer Institute. Please join us and help us to continue to raise awareness and funds to end this disease. Your donation is very much appreciated.
Moving into this year, 2019 we will begin a partnership with a national organization, HEAD FOR THE CURE. Their team carries the very same values as ours, but on a much larger scale than we are able to provide. Funds raised from the Head for the Cure Brain Cancer Awareness 5K - Pittsburgh event benefit BCA, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center and the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative (BTTC).
Head for the Cure works to inspire hope for the community of brain cancer patients, their families, friends, caregivers and other supporters, while celebrating their courage, spirit and energy. Every Head for the Cure event marks a day of celebration where those diagnosed with brain cancer are honored and celebrated by their friends and families, those who have lost their battles are remembered, and we are all inspired to carry on the fight.
Funds raised by Head for the Cure support the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative, a network of medical centers with the expertise and the desire to participate in state-of-the-art clinical trials investigating new treatments for malignant brain tumors.
Each year, over 79,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor. More than 120 types of brain tumors exist, making effective treatment complicated. Cutting edge research is needed as we continue to make strides in this fight.
Please consider making a donation today to help us reach our goal and to help Head for the Cure defeat brain cancer, step by step!
