WE'RE CELEBRATING JOHNMICHAEL'S 10 YEAR TUMORVERSARY
WE WANT THIS TO BE OUR BIGGEST TEAM IN HISTORY!!
Every team member raises awareness and every dollar helps to find another possible weapon in our fight against brain cancer. We are celebrating **10 YEARS** since Johmichael's diagnosis. Without the chemo (Temodar) that was fairly new to the scene in 2009, the odds of him being alive still would have been slim. With his recurrence last month, that same chemo is AGAIN helping Johnmichael battle down the new evil sliver in his brain. The drug is brutal, but the extra days/months/years/decades it brings to Johnmichael and so many other survivors is a never-ending gift.
When Johnmichael was first diagnosed, there weren't other approved options besides full brain radiation if the Temodar didn't work. Now he has back-up options that weren't even INVENTED when he was first diagnosed. We want to continuing helping with finding that next new treatment that will give him (and so many others) more years with family and friends.**
**Disclaimer: the above is maudlin, but true. We went from "less than a year" to "2 or 3 years" to "hell YEAH we're at a decade" life span options. It's why I want to give back to the cause. Well, that, and the opportunity to wear florescent green once a year....
If you can volunteer on race day, or know kids or adults that want to, please let me know!
Addtional, but less personal info:
Funds raised by Head for the Cure support the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative, a network of medical centers with the expertise and the desire to participate in state-of-the-art clinical trials investigating new treatments for malignant brain tumors. A portion of the funds from our race are given directly to the Univeristy of Washington and SCCA Brain Tumor departments - Johnmichael's care teams!
Each year, over 200,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor. More than 120 types of brain tumors exist, making effective treatment complicated. Cutting edge research is needed as we continue to make strides in this fight.
Head for the Cure works to inspire hope for the community of brain cancer patients, their families, friends, caregivers and other supporters, while celebrating their courage, spirit and energy. Every Head for the Cure event marks a day of celebration where those diagnosed with brain cancer are honored and celebrated by their friends and families, those who have lost their battles are remembered, and we are all inspired to carry on the fight.
Please consider making a donation today to help us reach our goal and to help Head for the Cure defeat brain cancer, step by step!
