Thank you for visiting our team page and helping us to reach our fundraising goal!
Our team is joining the fight against brain cancer by participating in Head for the Cure Seattle on June 29, 2019. Head for the Cure is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for brain cancer research.
As many of you know I was diagnosed with Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma in December of 2017 at Harborview Medical Center. I was from there transferred over to UW for my first round of Chemotherapy and under the care of Dr. Taylor of the UW Alvord Brain Tumor Center. The care from the ABTC and SCCA has changed my life. My husband Jeff ran in the Head for the Cure last June not long after I was released from my long stay at UW for my stem cell transplant. So this year I’d like to join in with our kids and would love for any or all of you to join us! I’ll definitely be walking not running but that in itself will be an amazing accomplishment and aid in my continued healing. As many of you have noticed I’m looking great from the outside but the inside still needs a lot of care one step at a time. A dear friend gave me a Snickers back during my treatment that had the label “Hot Mess” and it was insanely accurate where I was at the time and still am in ways so thought that’s what my team needed to be called.
Head for the Cure works to inspire hope for the community of brain cancer patients, their families, friends, caregivers and other supporters, while celebrating their courage, spirit and energy. Every Head for the Cure event marks a day of celebration where those diagnosed with brain cancer are honored and celebrated by their friends and families, those who have lost their battles are remembered, and we are all inspired to carry on the fight.
Funds raised by Head for the Cure support the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative, a network of medical centers with the expertise and the desire to participate in state-of-the-art clinical trials investigating new treatments for malignant brain tumors.
Each year, over 79,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor. More than 120 types of brain tumors exist, making effective treatment complicated. Cutting edge research is needed as we continue to make strides in this fight.
Please consider making a donation today to help us reach our goal and to help Head for the Cure defeat brain cancer, step by step!
