Thank you for visiting our team page and helping us to reach our fundraising goal!
Our team is continuing the fight against brain cancer by participating in Head for the Cure St. Louis on June 23, 2019. Head for the Cure is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for brain cancer research. This is our 3rd year participating in the race!
When I was in my freshman year of high school, my world changed completely. My dad was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme in April 2008. Before cancer, my dad was passionate about so many things. He loved to read, write, cook and especially loved photography. But probably his biggest love was our family. He loved helping my sister and I succeed in school and grow as people. He also loved teasing my mom, sister and I, much to our annoyance sometimes.
After he was diagnosed with brain cancer, our world changed. He had to have brain surgery to try and remove most of the tumor. Then after surgery, he had several weeks of radiation therapy. During his battle with cancer, I was able to see first hand the toll brain cancer takes on a person's body and their mind. Unfortunately, brain cancer is very difficult to treat and with this type of cancer it was especially aggressive. My dad lost his battle in January 2009. It has become important to my family and me to get involved in helping others who suffer from brain cancer and their families.
This will be our 3rd year with Head for the Cure and we are very excited to bring awareness to brain cancer and help raise money for the cause. Head for the Cure works to inspire hope for the community of brain cancer patients, their families, friends, caregivers and other supporters, while celebrating their courage, spirit and energy.
Funds raised by Head for the Cure support the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative, a network of medical centers with the expertise and the desire to participate in state-of-the-art clinical trials investigating new treatments for malignant brain tumors. Barnes Jewish Siteman Cancer Center, the center where my dad was treated, is supported by the funds as well.
Each year, over 200,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor. More than 120 types of brain tumors exist, making effective treatment complicated. Cutting edge research is needed as we continue to make strides in this fight.
Please consider making a donation today to help us reach our goal and to help Head for the Cure defeat brain cancer, step by step!
