Welcome to My Personal Page
Thank you for visiting my personal page and helping me to reach my fundraising goal!
I am joining the fight against brain cancer by participating in Head for the Cure - Austin on March 27th, 2022. Head for the Cure is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for brain cancer research.
Each year, over 84,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor. More than 120 types of brain tumors exist, making effective treatment complicated. Cutting edge research is needed as we continue to make strides in this fight.
As you may know, my very dear friend Julia Kay Shank from Texas lost her college sweetheart, our friend Alec Wirt. Alec was diagnosed with glioblastoma IV on December 31, 2019, with an expected survival time of 12-18 months. Alec lived for another 16 months before he passed. Alec and Julia where the sweets couple in all of TX, who took this MN girl in as a friend well living in TX knowing barely anyone but my TX family and roommate. As Julia says, Alec is the strongest person she ever met. His diagnoses never effected his lively, bubbly spirit. He was full of joy and laughter. He was the type a person that lit up a room and could make friends with any stranger. He was willing to give the shirt off his back. He fought cancer as hard as he could: two brain surgeries, chemo treatments, and radiation treatments. He had the "give me all you got, Doc" mentality. During this fight, he never expressed negative attitude. He had all his nurses and doctors laughing and the best Facebook post ever that had me laughing my tuchus off in “Minnesnowta.”
Alec, I will never forget your humor, funny personality, all the time you and Julia invited me to your house for a good old Texas meal or to show this MN girl something new and cool about TX that I would have never found on my own. A few of my favorite memories are of our fun day river trips, beer games and day drinking by the pool. You were a big part of my adventure of finding myself again after losing my grandmother to Cancer and because of you and Julia I learned to find the peace and happiness I needed so badly in my life during that tough time. I am grateful for all the memories with you and Julia during one of the best summers of my life. I am excited to do this challenge in your honor my friend and plan to give it all I got. RIP Alec <3
