Help Fight Brain Cancer!
On Aug 2nd 2018, my dad had his first seizure. After extensive blood tests and MRIs, the doctors discovered the cause of this seizure, as well as the ones that followed, was a brain tumor. So, on the morning of Oct 1st, 2018 my dad underwent his first brain surgery. The doctors successfully removed the tumor and broke the news to us that it was in fact cancerous. My dad had brain cancer.
Not only was the tumor cancerous, but the worst kind: glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is a malignant grade iv tumor with an aggressive nature to invade and grow rapidly. Since his diagnosis, my dad has undergone traditional chemo and radiation, but we learned that he has a genetic mutation and these forms of treatment do not work on him. After this discovery, my dad joined an advanced medical trial that attempted to prevent the tumor from growing. He underwent his second brain surgery on Aug 19th 2019 to remove swelling in his brain.
My dad experienced set backs in his battle against brain cancer, including developing blood clots in his leg and lungs that hospitalized him Dec 2019. But he continues to fight every day and is adjusting to his new normal.
It’s been nearly two years since we found out my dad had brain cancer. In honor of that momentous date, as well as his current fight, I’m raising funds for brain cancer research by participating in Head for the Cure’s Virtual 5k event October 18th.
Please help support me as I raise funds for much needed brain cancer research!
