My Journey with the Gremlin
Thank you for visiting my personal page and helping me to reach my fundraising goal!
I am joining the fight against brain cancer by participating in Head for the Cure Virtual 5K- San Antonio on September 26, 2020. (This year it will be a virtual 5K due to precautions for the global health pandemic.) Head for the Cure (HFTC) is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for brain cancer research. Last year, I started TEAM MOMOCITA which raised a little over $1600 for HFTC!
My own journey with brain cancer began in 2018. On August 23, 2018 my provider confirmed to my husband and I that I had a brain tumor close to the size of a golf ball. So on August 28 I had a consult with a neurosurgeon in San Antonio, Texas to discuss what it could be and what my options are. Without a biopsy they could only assume what it was based on the imaging from the CT scan and MRIs. My neurosurgeon suspected it was a low-grade glioma.
On October 2, 2018 I had my brain surgery. I decided to call the tumor Gremlin. Look up the definition of gremlin and maybe you will understand why it fits. Biopsy results confirmed the gremlin was an oligodendroglioma Grade 2 (with genetic testing). The gremlin had "favorable" mutations which meant this type of brain cancer is known to respond well to radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
Brain surgery, 30 rounds of radiation therapy, 12 cycles of oral chemotherapy and with God guiding my journey... I have kicked this cancer's butt and am currently considered in remission due to clear scans!
Thank you for reading my story about my journey with brain cancer! Please consider making a donation or join TEAM MOMOCITA (you can even join as a virtual team member) on the Head for the Cure website today to help me reach my goal and to help Head for the Cure defeat brain cancer, step by step!
