Welcome to My Personal Page
Thank you for visiting my personal page and helping me to reach my fundraising goal!
I am joining the fight against brain cancer by participating in the Head for the Cure - Orlando 5K on Saturday, February19th, 2022. Head for the Cure is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for brain cancer research.
On September 27, 2021, at the age of 30, Kevin Shields lost his six-year battle with brain cancer. He was first diagnosed with stage 3 anaplastic astrocytoma in August 2015; after going through surgery to remove the tumor, radiation, and chemotherapy, life seemed to be moving along on a fairly good trajectory until January 2020, when the tumor re-occurred as a glioblastoma.
Kevin made the most of the extra time he was given, finishing his Aerospace Engineering degree at UCF, working as the Information Technology Manager for Dnata Aviation Support Services, and spending time with family, friends, and his numerous cats. Kevin’s biggest asset was his friendly personality; he was always positive, smiling, and friendly.
Many people upon meeting him would comment about ‘what a nice guy’ he was – he was authentically nice and cared about the people around him. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
To quote Sesame Street, “We can all be very happy that we had a chance to be with him, and to know him, and to love him a lot when he was here.”
Please consider making a donation today to help me reach my goal and to help Head for the Cure defeat brain cancer, step by step!
